Métis Scholar Award
Made available starting in 2015 through a partnership between Lakeland College and the Métis Education Foundation, the purpose of the Métis Scholar Award is to encourage academic achievement and to provide financial assistance to Métis students enrolled at Lakeland College. The award is available to Métis students enrolled full-time in any undergraduate program. Recipients must meet the following criteria:
- Demonstrate financial need
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better
- Be a Canadian citizen and a resident of Alberta
- Not receiving funding from any program at the Rupertsland Institute
- Provide proof of Métis ancestry
- Be enrolled and confirmed in the Otipemisiwak Métis Student and Alumni Association
- Declare that their name will not appear on Canada’s Indian Registry or a Band list pursuant to the Indian Act, and is not an Inuk, or a non-Status Indian
- Demonstrate current or recent involvement in the Métis community
- Outline the reasons for the chosen field of study, and how a Métis Scholar Award will impact the journey towards the completion of studies and career objectives
