Lakeland College Humanitarian Bursary

Established as of the 2023/24 academic year, the Lakeland College Humanitarian Bursary was created to provide financial assistance to international students studying at Lakeland College, whose home country is experiencing political conflict or natural disaster, which affects the student’s ability to access financial supports to achieve their educational goals.

This bursary reduces a student’s tuition, by waiving the international portion of their charges. Students are responsible for other costs such as domestic fees, international medical insurance, housing, textbooks and supplies.

To be considered, a student must meet the following criteria:
1. Have applied to and been accepted into a post-secondary program at Lakeland College.

2. Provide a copy of one of the following documents:

  • A copy of the IRB or IRCC document that confirms that the applicant has a pending Refugee claim or Permanent Residency under Humanitarian and Compassionate Status claim
  • A copy of IRCC document that confirms their application for Protected Person status OR
  • Proof that they qualified under special measures by the Government of Canada (such as the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel- CUAET)
Note: An application that has not been submitted to IRCC will not be considered as proof of eligibility

3. Demonstrate financial need.

4. Maintain a satisfactory academic standing (minimum GPA of 2.0).

Preference given to those who demonstrate greatest financial need and those who are here on Government sponsorship.

A student will stop receiving the bursary for one of the following reasons:

  • At the conclusion of the period outlined in the funding award letter
  • The student does not maintain a satisfactory academic standing (GPA of 2.0 or higher)
  • The student withdraws from their academic program and/or Lakeland College
