Métis Scholar Award

Made available starting in 2015 through a partnership between Lakeland College and the Métis Education Foundation, the purpose of the Métis Scholar Award is to encourage academic achievement and to provide financial assistance to Métis students enrolled at Lakeland College. The award is available to Métis students enrolled full-time in any certificate, diploma, or university transfer program, any year of study. Recipients must meet the following criteria:
• Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, with preference given to applicants that demonstrate both academic achievement and financial need.
• Is not a current client of, or receiving funding from, the Rupertsland Institute.
• Must show proof of Métis ancestry.
• Must declare your name will not appear on the Government of Canada’s Indian Registry and/or band list pursuant to the Indian Act, and are not Inuk, or a non-status Indian.
• Must have Alberta residency and provide proof of 90 days of consistent residence.
• Must demonstrate Métis community involvement.
• Submit a letter explaining why they have chosen their field of study, how the award will impact their educational journey, career objectives and outline their involvement in the Métis community.
