Lakeland College Environment Club

Lakeland College Environment Club

The Lakeland College Environment Club was founded in 1999 by Environmental Sciences students who wished to foster a campus environment that promoted sustainability themed projects and events that would enhance the Vermilion campus and positively impact students and local community. The club has been dedicated to raising awareness of environmental issues and tackling these issues with the belief that even small changes can make an impact. The club has been instrumental in creating positive changes such as initiating campus recycling, planting a native garden, constructing a living roof pavilion, organizing campus cleanups, and building bat and bee houses, as well as supporting through fundraising many conservation organizations. Environmental, educational, and social activities have created opportunity for students to become empowered and develop skills as leaders and volunteers. Through a variety of fundraising initiatives to support projects, students also created awards for members who demonstrated the Environmental Club mission. Today, this has developed into an endowment fund for student leaders, recognizing their value that has been integral to the club success, and ultimately success of graduates from the School of Environmental Sciences. That spirit of giving has continued to grow such that it now supports two awards annually.

This award is a result of student leaders and members who through countless volunteer hours and dedication for over 20 years contributed to an endowment fund to support our student leaders. Not only does it represent student values and dedication, it supports student success in growth, confidence, leadership and academics.

Impact

This award recognizes the contributions of our current student leaders within the Environmental Sciences school, and the value those leaders provide across the campus and community. Developing leaders within the school community benefits Lakeland College and the local community in improving our sustainability practices and awareness of the impact of our students. Supporting students and demonstrating the value of their actions at Lakeland creates inspiration and motivation.
The award funds two $500 to qualifying students in the Environmental Science programming within any year or major.

The Environmental Sciences school would be most pleased to receive acknowledgement and feedback from the successful candidates.
