D. George Loxam/CS Resources Limited Memorial Scholarship

D. George Loxam/CS Resources Limited Memorial Scholarship

D. George Loxam, (called George) was a student and graduate of the Heavy Oil Operator Technician (HOOT) program (now called Power Engineering Technician) at Lakeland College, Lloydminster, Alberta, in 1994 and gained employment in the service industry, working as an equipment operator spraying overgrowth on powerline right of ways. As a result of an accident on the job, George lost his life on July 7, 1994, shortly after his graduation.

Wishing to create a legacy to honor and remember a young life lost and recognize the humanitarian belief and contribution of a previous employer, a scholarship was proposed and developed in his name and that of CS Resources Limited with the support of Dennis Sharp, Founder and President, now deceased. CS Resources (George’s father’s employer at the time) quickly stepped up and offered to assist in funding the scholarship. Additional funds were contributed to the fund by family, friends and others.

The fund was set up to provide a monetary source for deserving students in the HOOT program. As the fund grew, another program was added with the same basic criteria. The HOPE program joined the HOOT program in eligibility for funding. The criteria for managing the awarding of the scholarship continues to evolve depending on funds available, student interest and business / industry requirements.

Impact

The Scholarship is a legacy to the late D. George Loxam, a Lakeland College student/ graduate and to CS Resources Limited an oil and gas production company that operated in the Lloydminster area for approximately 7 years.

The fund awards two $1000.00 scholarships to qualifying students in the Power Engineering Technician program (formerly known as Heavy Oil Operations Technician (HOOT)) or in the Process and Power Engineering program (formerly known as Heavy Oil Power Engineering (HOPE)).

I (David Loxam, George’s father) would be most pleased to receive input, acknowledgement and feedback from successful student recipients.
